Reader’s letter: The people of Newark want improved roads, footpaths and public transport
Councillors Neil Clark and Keith Girling seem very irritated by my seeking to put pressure on the county council to do their job on transport issues in and around Newark.
They say “Nottinghamshire County Council doesn’t need pressure from Cllr Paul Taylor, Newark Town Council or anyone else to improve roads and transport”.
I am really surprised just how complacent they appear.
I would love to head Newark Advertisers readers on the following questions.
Do you believe the number of potholes around Newark is acceptable?
Are you happy with our bus services to Kings Mill Hospital or at least lack of one?
Are there other places your think we should be able to use public transport?
The state of the footpaths is a real disgrace particularly for people in wheelchairs and have weeds in some cases blocking the footpaths.
I am confident that the people of Newark want improved roads, footpaths and public transport and their indifference to the needs of Newark people just shows how out of touch these two Tory councillors are. — PAUL TAYLOR, Newark town and district councillor.
