Exposed wires and pothole a trip hazard on busy junction in Newark says Nottinghamshire County Councillor
Exposed wires in a pothole are causing a trip hazard on a busy junction.
The pothole is located on the pedestrian crossing junction between Northern Road and Lincoln Road, Newark.
Several wires can be seen protruding out of the road surface. These wires can easily be lifted with enough room for a foot to catch underneath them.
Nottinghamshire County Councillor Debbie Darby is especially concerned for the safety of residents, saying: "The wire is exposed, it's lifted up from the tarmac and it's absolutely lethal.
"It's a busy junction and a bad layout but if someone were to trip, especially the disabled and blind, they could be really hurt. It's really bad and concerning.
"It's annoying because I'm trying my best to do my job and I spend so much time reporting potholes, it feels like I'm banging my head against a brick wall.
"Every time the council meets, roads and potholes are discussed. I would say it is the one thing that without fail is always mentioned.
"These potholes need fixing properly in the first place to stop them getting so bad."
Councillor Darby said that she has repeatedly pressed the issue with the county council's highway maintenance team Via and was told it would be dealt with soon as is considered an urgent repair.
