Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service offer advice on avoiding accidental wild fires
As the UK enters the summer months and temperatures begin to climb, the fire service has issued a warning about wild fires.
As part of outdoor fire safety month Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service took to social media to warn the public and offer advice on preventing accidental fires.
They said: “Some wild fires are started deliberately, but most are due to carelessness.”
Three easy pieces of advice to remember are:
- Never throw cigarette ends out of car windows
- Avoid open fires in the countryside
- Don't leave litter in woodland
The service said they didn’t want a repeat of last summer, when several large wildfires broke out in grassy and woodland areas across the county, with evidence showing that they were caused by litter, cigarettes and disposable barbeques.
The message follows a fire near Southwell this week caused by a bonfire which had been left unattended in dry conditions and burned out of control, destroying two barns.
With Nottinghamshire set for a small heatwave early next week, with highs of 26°C, please keep in mind the advice on avoiding accidental fires.
