Newark fire fighters warm hearts with Newark Mancap's The Avenue day service visit
Firefighters have been warming hearts and raising smiles with a visit to a day service.
Crews from Newark Fire Station paid a visit to Newark Mencap’s The Avenue Centre at the Congregational Church on London Road to talk with the group about fire safety and show off their equipment.
The Avenue manager, Dianne Bearcroft talked about what the visit meant to the service users, saying: “They were all so excited to see the firefighters, who gave a really interesting talk on fire safety that helps brings it to life in a friendly way.
"As well as the talk, they tried all of the equipment and uniforms on and absolutely loved it, it made they day.
"We have to do fire drills here and this helps show why it is so important and that we don't just drag them out into the cold for no reason."
The Avenue was also recently chosen as Newark Business Awards adopted charity.
Dianne said: "I can't put it into words what it means. This will help a lot in getting the word out about what we do.
"We're not a massive day centre here, we're more like a family and we are overwhelmed by the support we receive."
