Newark Advertiser reader letters: Free parking offer is a late April Fools joke

Regarding the front page of last week’s Advertiser, Free Parking Eases Burden On Shoppers, I checked the date on the paper expecting it to be April 1, but it was not.

It is an insult to the public. How much shopping would one get in 30 minutes?

Park the car and, depending which carpark you are in it might take five minutes to get a ticket then return to the car and put it on the dashboard.

Walk to the shops, hope there is no one ahead of you — yo u might make it back if there is one, but not two - put goods back on the shelf, return to vehicle and clear the cameras, hoping you haven’t passed 30 m i nute s .

Come on council, each supermarket gives you two hours free so why is yours only 30 minutes?

Incidentally, I believe Southwell has one hour.

Much more needs to be done to bring shoppers to Newark and you do not seem to be on the right track. — Brian Clark, Balderton.
