Friends to run Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association with aim of raising £10,000
Four friends are hoping to raise thousands of pounds for charity as they take on a marathon today.
Bob Briggs-Price, Steven Clewer, Garry Fell and Sam Ward are all running the Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon today (Sunday, May 12).
They will be running in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which focuses on improving access to care, research and campaigning for those people living with or affected by MND in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
They set a target of raising £10,000 and are currently just a few hundred pounds away from reaching their goal.
Bob said: “I ran this event last year after my mum was diagnosed with motor neurons disease (MND) and raised over £6,000.
“I decided to run again because, at present there is no cure for this cruel disease.
“The funds will make a massive difference to everyone affected by MND and hopefully bring a cure ever closer.”
“It means an awful lot to me, to be running again.
“Last year’s event was one of the best experiences of my life, although this year will be extremely emotional considering my beloved mum lost her brave fight on new years eve.
“But it has given me a focus and I’ve been massively helped along the way by my friends Ste, Garry and Sam.”
Last year Steven’s dad was also given the news that he also has MND, which inspired Steven to sign up alongside Bob and their good friends Garry and Sam.
The friends decided to run as a group for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) and since January have been out and about training in all types weather thrown at them.
“MNDA do a fantastic job of supporting people affected by MND and their families,” said Bob.
“After seeing my beloved mum slowly slip away, we want to spare others the heartache and pain by doing our part to help find a cure.
“People can support us by going to our JustGiving page and donating whatever they can.”

Bob added: “We would like to thank everybody that has supported us so far and followed our training stories throughout the year.
“We’ve been supported by lots of friends and family both home and abroad and Steven’s sister Gemma even organised an extremely successful painting and poker night at Farndon cricket club that brought in over £4000.”
