Nottingahmshire County Council’s cabinet member for communities and public health encourages people to volunteer at the Nottinghamshire County Show held at Newark Showground in May

We are immensely proud of our county and once again, we are working with the team behind the annual Nottinghamshire County Show on held on May 11 to promote all we have to offer, writes Scott Carlton, cabinet member for communities and public health, Nottinghamshire County Council.

This year, we’re looking for some willing volunteers to help us.

The show welcomes thousands of visitors, and local and regional businesses while showcasing livestock, horses, countryside competitions, plus local food producers, and craft stalls.

As we did last year, we have worked with our services and community partners to fill the George Stephenson Exhibition Hall to create a wonderful community zone.

This is where we’d really like a team of people to help us tell people what’s on offer, to demonstrate activities, and to get people as excited about the event as we are.

You could be helping to stage manage the amazing programme of musical and dance performance on our community zone stage or you could be seeing how your tennis skills match up to the team at Newark Tennis Club on the giant inflatable.

The flood awareness team will be showcasing their flooding simulator sandbox to see how places are affected by the flow of water into rivers and wetlands.

You might want to learn about road safety, support small children to ride bikes with the Bikeability team or learn how to enjoy the countryside with our teams from Via — you could even sit on a gritter.

I can’t wait to get involved in some of the fun.

I’m confident that your support can ensure all our visitors will have a great day and take away a lot of information on great things happening across our county.

Whether you want a bit of event experience, to learn a bit more about the county or to meet some new and interesting people, volunteering is a great way to do it.

We’d like to hear from individuals aged 16+ or if you are a family that would like to volunteer together for the day, we’d love to hear from you.

All you need to do is drop a quick email to news@nottscc.gov.uk and we will get straight back to you with some more information.
