Newark and Sherwood District Council encouraging those affected by flooding to apply for Community Recovery Grant
Residents affected by flooding are being encouraged to apply for a grant to help them with recovery.
Following an announcement by the UK Government to provide funding for households affected by Storm Babet, a £500 community recovery grant is now available.
The grant is available for any household in which their main home has been flooded or the home has been left uninhabitable — such as, where utilities have been cut off for more than 48 hours.
Applicants will be asked to provide proof of flooding and where possible council officers will visit the household to verify the claim if they haven’t already been to the property.
In addition, households may be eligible for the council tax discount scheme. Whereby, affected eligible households will be given a 100% discount on their council tax for at least 3 months.
Paul Peacock, leader of Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “It is incredibly important that help is offered by the UK Government and that it will soon be with our residents.
“These floods have been devastating for many of our residents, so this money will be very welcome.
“I am proud of how our communities, residents and council colleagues have worked together during these past few weeks.
“Hopefully we can continue to help each other to get back normality soon.”
Newark and Sherwood District Council has created an online form to apply for the community recovery grant which can be accessed through its website or by following the link: www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/flooding/storm-babet-information/
Applications for the council tax discount scheme should be made using the same form as the community recovery grant.
Residents who have been adversely affected by the storm can complete the form online, or if needed, they can call the district council on 01636 650 000 from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
