Advertiser Reader Letters: 20mph speed limit is great idea, no good in reality
Regarding the campaign for speed controls of 20 miles an hour in villages. Great if we have the policing to support it!
When we can’t even get A1 highways police to move into villages when the A1 diversions take place, it simply won’t work .
It sounds good in practice but hardly workable without the supportive policing and the working cameras in situ.
Also, most residents locally don’t want to get involved in speed controls campaigns with cameras because a) they don’t need the abuse from car drivers b ) don’t have the time and c) don’t want to risk getting maimed by huge heavy duty traffic/lorries as they rush through villages often without pavements or inadequately maintained pavements by Nottinghamshire county.
Lastly it’s worth looking at the non-existent fining system if local residents are operating speed control cameras on behalf of the police. —C. YOUNG, Wellow .
