Deadline to register to vote in local elections ends tonight, April 16, to elect Mayor of the East Midlands, Police and Crime Commissioner of Nottinghamshire, Newark Town Council Magnus Ward councillor
Anyone not yet registered to vote in the upcoming local elections has just a few hours left to apply.
On Thursday May 2, residents will head to the polls to choose a who they want as the first ever Mayor of the East Midlands.
At the same time the next Police and Crime Commissioner of Nottinghamshire will be decided, and in Newark a by-election for an empty Magnus Ward seat on Newark Town Council will also be filled.
Registration to vote must be completed by 11.59pm tonight (April 16) and can be done online, here: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Voters will need to show photo ID to vote in person at polling stations and must be 18-years-old or over.
East Midlands mayoral candidates are:
Frank Adlington-Stringer, Green.
Ben Bradley, Conservative.
Matt Relf, Independent.
Helen Tamblyn-Saville, Liberal Democrat.
Claire Ward, Labour.
Alan Graves, Reform UK.
The candidates recently debated key issues and answered questions at an event in Newark.
The Police and Crime Commissioner candidates are:
Gary Godden, Labour.
Caroline Henry, Conservative.
David Watts, Liberal Democrat.
The Newark Town Council, Magnus Ward candidates are:
Laurence Goff, Labour.
Stephen Pearson, Conservative.
Anna Maria Rutkowska, Independents for Newark.
The poll will be held on Thursday, May 2, from 7am to 10pm.
