It's World Chocolate Day, do you agree with the Newark Advertiser newsroom favourites?
Every year on July 7, World Chocolate Day is celebrated allowing chocolate lovers everywhere to indulge in a guilt free treat.
First observed back in 2009, it is said that the annual celebration of chocolate is on this day as it may be the anniversary of the introduction of chocolate to Europe in 1550.
Chocolate comes from the seed of the tropical Theobroma cacao tree, which grows in Mexico, Central America, and Northern South America.
The plant is believed to have been cultivated for at least three millennia, with the earliest known documentation of using cacao seeds around 1100 BC.
As well as tasting good, chocolate does have some health benefits. Chocolate increases serotonin and dopamine levels, which send messages to the brain boosting positive moods. Dark chocolate can also be especially good for you, being a source of antioxidants.
So, whether your go to chocolate fix is a drink, cake, raw or just a regular old bar, this is a holiday we can all celebrate.
