The White Swan pub on Northgate, Newark has closed but raised money for the British Heart Foundation on it's final day
A popular town centre pub has closed down — but ended things on a high.
Last orders were called at The New White Swan pub on Northgate, Newark, this week.
The pub — which managed to continue trading throughout the coronavirus pandemic by opening a beer garden — made the decision to raise money for the British Heart Foundation on February 26, giving regulars a chance to say goodbye.
The fundraising evening featured, among other things, a raffle, DJ, live music from the High Notes and games, raising a total of £1,200.
In a message on the pub's Facebook page, it addressed its followers to say: "Well it was a sad day but we ended it on a high.
"Thank you to everyone who came in support. We managed to raise over £1,200 in total for The British Heart Foundation in memory of Kevin Kirk.
"We now have to say a final goodbye. Once again we thank all of our staff, regulars, customers, friends and family for your support and for making us the White Swan family."
The pub's Facebook page will continue to remain active to share posts and memories.
Messages left on the pub's farewell social media posts included one, which read: "The end of an era dude. But what a way to finish!
"You can be proud that you guys managed to give that place an amazing atmosphere and absolutely fill it time and time again.
"We've all had some unforgettable memories there and we'll all miss it. Good luck to you guys and congratulations on making the Swan a fantastic local!
Another commented: "Was a great day, raised a great amount and a perfect way to say goodbye to The New White Swan."
One more person wrote: "Thanks for everything and is very sad to not have a pub that we can call our local. We have always enjoyed it in the pub."
For security reasons, the occupants will continue to remain on site for the foreseeable future until the owner takes back control.
All money has been removed for machines and any items of value have been moved to temporary storage.
Alarm system and security cameras covering both inside and outside of the property continue to remain active 24 hours a day.
