Newark former Staythorpe Electricity Sports and Social Club converted into luxury apartments on Kings Road.
A first look has been given inside a former chapel and sports and social club that has been converted into apartments.
Development work has now finished on the former Staythorpe Electricity Sports and Social Club on Kings Road, Newark.
The building, which started out as a chapel, closed in 2016 and was bought by Billy Morris, from Nottingham, in March 2021.
“I’m a builder, I’ve always been a builder. I liked Newark and was looking for a project,” he said.
“I took a risk and decided to buy the church at auction because I loved the building and could see it had potential.
“I’d seen it many times and thought I’d love to own that one day — and now I do.”
Work started in October 2021, with Billy spending almost £1m on the building to bring it up to date with new-build regulations.

Now that works have been completed, the building has been valued at £1.5m.
“I’m definitely happy with my investment and the risk seems to have paid off financially,” said Billy.
“There are nine luxury apartments available, featuring the original oak beams and beautiful arched windows.
“We have also put in skylights and solar panels to modernise the building and create energy efficient flats,” Billy said.
There are five two-bedroom and four one-bedroom apartments available for rent, ranging from £600 to£1,000 a month.
Billy hopes to develop more buildings in Newark and most recently bought the old piano school building on Mount Lane, which he plans to give the same treatment and turn it into luxury one and two-bedroom flats.
