Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon come to Southwell Minster from October 12 to 22.
The beauty of moon will be coming to Southwell Minster is an awe-inspiring art installation.
After the success of last year’s Gaia Earth installation, the Minster will be welcoming Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon from October 12 to 22.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface.
The installation has travelled from place to place around the country and is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones, creating an immersive experience.
Space-based children’s activities, including the chance to handle real life meteorites, will be available on Saturday, October 19 and Monday, October 21 from 10.30am to 2.30pm.
A number of other events and activities will be taking place around the moon including:
• Pilates under the Moon: October 14, 15, 21 and 22, from 9am to 9.45am
• Papagena (all-female, a cappella quintet): October 14, 7.30pm
• Words and Music: October 16, 3.30pm
• Lunar Compline (Night Prayer by candlelight – free admission, no ticket required): October 17, 9pm
• Moonshine (evening of dancing and music with a live 8-piece swing band): October 19, 7.30pm.

• Sunday, October 13: 1pm to 3pm
• Monday, October 14: 10am to 3pm
• Tuesday, October 15: 10am to 5pm
• Wednesday, October 16: 10am to 3pm
• Thursday, October 17: 10am to 5pm, and 7pm to 8.30pm
• Friday, October 18: 10am to 5pm, and 7pm to 9pm
• Saturday, October 19: 10am to 5pm*
• Sunday, October 20: 12pm to 3pm, and 5pm to 7pm
• Monday, October 21: 10am to 5pm*, and 7pm to 9pm
• Tuesday, October 22: 10am to 5pm, and 7pm to 9pm
Booking is recommended but not essential — day time tickets are available for £4 for adults, £2 for under 16s, and evening tickets are available for for £5 for adults, £3 for under 16s, and under 5s go free at any time of day.
A special preview evening will be hosted from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, October 11, with tickets avaialble for £10 and a drink included.
Last entry is 30 minutes before the end of each session, and dogs are welcome on leads.
