Farnsfield skatepark for young people in Newark and Sherwood nears completion

Young people from across the district are set to benefit as a new concrete skatepark nears completion.

Work began in January on the construction of a new skatepark at The Acres in Farnsfield, with completion expected for later this month.

The project has been in the works at Farnsfield Parish Council since 2011 and will form part of larger recreational development spread across the east side of the village.

A council spokesman said: "The current parish council is proud to have been able to progress the project.

"The facility fills a gap identified in the village neighbourhood plan, completed in 2016 for more recreational facilities for children within the parish.

"With significant investment in other play facilities for younger children, the skatepark is designed to meet the needs of the 11-17 age group."

Specialists Bendcrete Skateparks were chosen to design and build the skatepark — which is being paid for using a combination of Community Infrastructure Levy funding and a Nottinghamshire County Council Local Infrastructure Grant.

Although costs have not yet been finalised the project is expected to come in below the agreed £100,000 budget.

The new facility is a concrete street-style skatepark and will feature flatbanks, two quarter-pipes, a rocket-bump, a rail with quarter-pipe, camel bumps and hubba ledges.

Once complete, young people from across Newark and Sherwood will have another dedicated space when looking to practice.

Other skateparks in the area include metal and tarmac skateparks in Newark and Collingham, wooden ramps in Southwell and a concrete park in Ollerton as well as larger skateparks just outside of the area in Mansfield and Nottingham.

An open consultation on the design of the new facility was held with residents in April of last year.
