Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden has offered reassurance about safety to Nottinghamshire residents following widespread civil unrest and rioting across the UK
Following civil unrest across the country over the past week, Nottinghamshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner has offered reassurance about community safety.
After the events of July 29, in which three young girls were killed and many more injured during a knife attack in Southport, several large scale protests were organised in towns and cities around the UK.
Unfortunately many of these protests descended into riots after being hijacked by far-right groups, leading to widespread concern from residents.
Last week, a far-right protest and anti-fascist counter protest in Nottingham city centre was contained by police, without an escalation into violence.
Now, the Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden has offered reassurance to residents and increased police presence as further unrest is expected to continue.
He said: “In order to address the concerns of our communities and to ensure the safety of everyone in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, I have been in constant communication with Chief Constable Kate Meynell.
“Together, we will strive to maintain peace and order, making our city a safer place for all residents and supporting the resilience of our local businesses.
“We are committed to an increased high-visibility police presence throughout the city and county, on our transport routes, and within our communities while any unrest lasts.
“This enhanced presence aims to reassure the public and foster a sense of safety for everyone.
“Our priority is to protect the safety and well-being of all residents while supporting the peaceful expression of opinions and preventing any potential unrest.
“I encourage any members of the public who may have concerns or require assistance to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 for non-emergencies or 999 in the case of an emergency.
“Your safety is our top priority, and we are here to help.”
