POLL: Do you feel safe walking in Newark at night?

Are Newark's streets safe at night?

This week the Advertiser spoke to an 18-year-old girl who talked about the terror she felt as she was accosted on her way home at night by a man who had been following her.

The incident occurred at roughly 8pm, when the woman was approached and chased down Hawton Lane, Balderton.

She ran into a residential garden and knocked on the door for help. The resident who came to her rescue then drove her home.

Following the terrifying encounter, the girl wants other women to be on their guard, particularly if they are walking alone at night but also talked about a similar incident happening in daylight when she was younger.

Recently, Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Caroline Henry said that she is spending on initiatives through Safer Streets funding, focussing on violence against women and girls and making them feel safe when out in the Newark area at night — using extra night patrols, CCTV cameras and safe spaces.
