POLL: Do you think Boris Johnson should resign from his role as Prime Minister after breaching covid lockdown rules?

The Newark and Sherwood MPs have offered support to Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak who have rejected calls to resign after receiving fines from the police for breaking lockdown rules in 2020.

Prime Minster Boris Johnson, the chancellor Rishi Sunak and the PM's wife all received fixed penalty notices for attending a birthday gathering for the PM in Downing Street in June.

They were fined £50 respectively for breaking lockdown rules.

Newark MP Robert Jenrick said it was a serious matter.

"Many people are very angry and disappointed," he said.

"The PM has rightly apologised and sought to change the set-up in No 10.

"I don’t think it would be sensible or in the national interest to consider changing leaders when we have a European war and a deepening economic crisis.”

Sherwood MP Mark Spencer said: "The PM has apologised and taken responsibility for what happened in Downing Street.

"He and the Chancellor are delivering a growing economy during global challenges and delivering on the international security crisis we face.

"They have my whole support."

As a result of the incident, Mr Johnson became the UK's first serving prime minister to be sanctioned for breaking the law.

All three have apologised.
