Newark dressmakers Petit Versailles mark Remembrance Sunday with poppy-themed window display in support of veterans' charity Newark Patriotic Fund
A town centre shop is marking Remembrance Sunday and paying tribute to veterans with a poppy-themed window display.
Petit Versailles on Stodman Street, Newark is a dressmakers known well for their creative displays, most recently honouring the fashion of Queen Elizabeth II after her passing.
Seamstress and owner Hajra Kemari created a vivid red gown inspired by poppies for the display.
Talking about the purpose of the window, she said: ''We are remembering and supporting our veterans by not only creating a window display, but by donating a percentage of sales from all our poppy merchandise to the Newark Patriotic Fund."
The Newark Patriotic Fund provides support to veterans and their families across the Newark area, offering mental health counselling, housing and social events as well as more practical advice such as financial training, job applications and CV writing.
Poppy-themed items available to buy include jewellery, scarves and hats.
The display is a fitting tribute as the shop's namesake, Versailles in France, was the location at which one of the most important peace treaties in history was signed following the end of the first world. The conflict was brought to a close at 11am on November 11 1918 — a date now serving as Armistice Day in the UK.
This weekend Hajra will be showcasing her imaginative creativity once again for the Six Million White Roses Art Exhibition which starts on Saturday November 5 at the Buttermarket.
Her newest creation is said to be white rose themed but further details are being kept secret until after the start of the exhibition.
The art exhibition is a national exhibition and will act as a charity event, supporting the National Holocaust Centre, in Laxton.
