Advertiser reader’s letter: Residents’ road plight ignored

Another month of disruption for those of us living near the A1 diversion routes in North Nottinghamshire .

Residents are still enduring sleepless nights and traffic delays if you live on a A1 diversion route in small towns such as Ollerton , Retford , Newark and villages along the A616 such as Wellow /Kneesall, etc.

This is happening now both during the day and at night on such a regular basis surely councillors and local MPs need to take note with local elections looming.

These ongoing road closures will be ongoing for months to come with no help seemly forthcoming from any of the agencies responsible.

Adding to the utter chaos is the occasionally big accident which admittedly no one can foresee . Nottinghamshire County Council and Highways England are not helping the situation by failing to maintain road surfaces on what were once country roads which are now becoming totally inadequate for heavy goods lorries or high volumes of traffic.

The A616 is developing more potholes daily and road surface cracks, which then leads to even more disruption of night-time sleeping patterns for residents.

Pavement access along this busy road is limited and at best patchy.

Complaints are numerous on many local websites .

Pollution levels and sleep deprivation must be at an all time high on many of these routes.

So, in short, our health is also suffering as well as the anxiety/frustration issues from sheer volumes of traffic experienced on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, the high volumes of traffic are not matched with appropriate speed restrictions or highways policing.

Can someone explain why highways can’t redeploy highways police into the areas affected to help residents at peak times of disruption.

One wonders why our latest council tax bills, delivered this week, doesn't take into account the disruption experienced by many residents across the north of the county.

No doubt our views won’t count unless the electorate seeks alternative groups or parties to represent us in the future .

In short, we appreciate that the A1 needs upgrading but residents along this route have yet to see much help or leeway over concerns raised by either Nottinghamshire County Council, Highways England or the police highway teams, all of which have been conveniently absent over the last few months.CARRIE YOUNG, Wellow.
