River Trent in Newark close to bursting as flood warning issued for Newark’s Riverside Park, Tolney Lane and marinas
Heavy rain in recent days combined with snow melt from last week’s unexpected snowfall has caused waters to rise across the district.
Now a flood warning is in place for Newark with Riverside Park, Tolney Lane and the Newark and Farndon Marinas most at risk.
Photos also reveal that the River Trent is already spilling over it’s banks, flooding parts of Riverside Park, submerging a play park and river side footpaths.
Further rainfall is forecast over the next 72 hours and officials expect river levels to remain high for the next few days.
Drivers are advised to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and and pedestrians are asked to stay clear of water to prevent accidents.
Kelham Road, just off the Cattlemarket Roundabout is still closed due to flood water across the road.
The Castle Barge pub at The Wharf is also currently closed because of high river levels.
