High Street in Collingham closed while Cadent fix gas leak
A main road has been closed while works take place to fix a gas leak.
Cadent are in attendance of a gas leak on High Street in Collingham, who are undertaking work to make the site safe.
Due to the location of the gas leak, the road will need to be closed to enable engineers to make repairs safely, although diversion signs will be in place.
The repair works and road closure will take place this evening (August 11), with works expected to continue over the weekend.
Cadent aim to complete the works before the start of next week.
Richard Sansom, director of Cadent’s East Midlands network, said: “Our engineers attended the site as a matter of urgency as soon as we were alerted to this leak, and our top priority has been making the site safe for residents.
“As you can imagine, repairing gas escapes is not a straightforward job, and in this instance, because of where it is located, we have had to take steps to close High Street in Collingham.
“This is purely to allow our engineers to have the space to carry out the works safely, but also as quickly as we can. We will have engineers working into the night and over the weekend to repair the leak so that we can minimise disruption to residents and road users.
“Of course, I fully understand the impact that the closure will have on the local community and road users, but I thank them all for their patience as we carry out these essential works.
“We have worked with the relevant authorities to introduce a diversion system, but I would just urge everyone to allow additional time for journeys, or try to find alternative routes where possible.”
