Staple Lane, Balderton, subject to 14 months of traffic restrictions to enable Urban and Civic works on Newark Southern Link Road project
A lengthy road closure has come into effect as part of the ongoing Southern Link Road project.
Staple Lane, Balderton, from its junction with Jericho Lane to its junction with Middlebeck Way, will be subject to road restrictions from August 21, 2023, to November 11, 2024.
During this time vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles will be prohibited along the length of the road.
Although Staple Lane is subject to restrictions between these dates, they are not continuous and the restrictions specified shall only be in effect when signs are in place.
The purpose of the restrictions is to enable Urban and Civic to carry out construction works associated with the Newark Southern Link Road.
The project aims to connect the A46 to the A1 south of Newark, to provide better transport connectivity and to ease congestion in and around the town.
These works will include two new roundabouts to provide a link between the B6326 to the east and Bowbridge Lane and Grange Lane to the west end of Staple Lane.
This will also include the construction of new — and the removal of the existing — carriageway and footway to a new alignment of Staple Lane.
The project is being funded partly through £20m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund grant secured by Newark and Sherwood District Council and will be delivered by Urban and Civic.
