Ollerton and Boughton Scarecrow Competition 2022 winner announced, featuring Paddington Bear, Little Red Riding Hood and an eco conscious bug hotel




Creativity and fun on show as the winners of this years Ollerton and Boughton scarecrow competition have been announced.

The competition saw entries from residents, community groups and schools all battling it out for the top spot, but in the end there could be only one winner.

A Paddintgon Bear themed display by resident Maureen Payne took home first place — "Who's For T?"

The scene featured the famous bear himself — complete with blue trench coat and red hat — sat a table, enjoying an afternoon tea of hand-knitted cakes, teapot, cup and saucer.

Boughton Manor Care Home was awarded second place with their Little Red Riding scene, featuring the fairy talk character alongside the wolf, lumberjack and a cottage — "Little Red Riding Manor"

An ingenious scarecrow which doubles as bug hotel created by Friends of Sherwood Heath and Cockglode and Rotary Wood was handed third place — "Professor EM Tologist, Proprietor of the Bug Hotel"

A highly commended certificate was given to Sherwood Forest Rotary for their scarecrow of Britannia — "Rotannia"

A highly commended certificate was also given to Girl Guiding Ollerton for their collection of scarecrows roasting marshmallows around a campfire — "There's Nothing Better Than a Campfire Evening".

A statement released by the Town Clerk on behalf of the mayor, read: "The Town Mayor, councillor Ryan King and the chairman of events, councillor Linda Shilling would like to thank everyone who took part in this year's Scarecrow Festival.

"The standard of entries was exceptionally high and judging was difficult.

"Thank you for making the effort to enter and for brightening up our town with your colourful creations."

Other entries included scarecrows from the Cubs, Beavers, Scouts, Pathfinders, Ollerton Women's Institute, The Parkgate Academy and ATTFE.
