Sponsors step up to support the Beaumond House Hospice Care's Starlight Stride

The sponsors have been announced for this year’s Starlight Stride memorial walk taking place June 25 and organised by Beaumond House Hospice Care.

Both Kirkgate Dental Care and Newark Rugby Club have chosen to support the walk, with the rugby club offering to host the event and the dental practice helping at the finishing area.

Starlight Stride is a 10k memorial walk for families and friends who have lost a loved one.

It will wind through the historic Newark town centre, past the castle and to Beaumond House where a moment of remembrance will be taken.

It ends at the rugby club where finishers will receive a goodie bag, food and hot drinks.

Beaumond House fundraising events manager Melissa Gaffney spoke of her excitement about the walk.

“When we tested our route, we loved how much the historic aesthetic of Newark stood out against a striking sunset,” said Melissa.

“The evening glow creates a wonderful atmosphere that we hope our walkers will love.”

Another sponsor of the events is Andy Smith, from Guardian Angels Carers, who has also signed up to take part.

He has pledged to donate £5 every time someone posts a photo with his banner on social media and tags both organisations.

Among those putting their best foot forward will be Jayne Wright who will be participating in the sponsored walk in memory of her mum, Sheila Bullimore.

Jayne said: “Mum was so lovingly cared for at the hospice before she sadly passed away from terminal cancer in 2013.

“I also volunteer at the hospice in day therapy and have witnessed what an amazing place it is.”

The hospice encourages everyone to get involved in the walk, which is open to anyone over the age of 16 — although under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry is £15 per person and the hospice asks that all participants raise a minimum of £50 sponsorship.

Registration on June 25 will be open 6.30pm-7.30pm with the walk due to start at 8pm.
