Tour of Britain cancels stage six of race to pay respects following the announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth II




The Tour of Britain has paid respects to the Royal Family following the death of Her Majesty The Queen.

It also confirmed the cancellation of stage six of the tour, which was due to be held tomorrow in Gloucestershire.

A statement released by the Tour of Britain following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II read: "The Tour of Britain organisation, alongside the teams, riders and officials involved in the event, are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty The Queen.

"We would like to send our deepest condolences to the whole of the Royal Family."

The statement continued, giving details about what would happen next after stage five of the elite cycle race was held in Nottinghamshire today.

"As a result, stage six in Gloucestershire on Friday 9 September, scheduled to take place between Tewkesbury and Gloucester, will not take place.

"Further updates in regards to the status of stages seven and eight will be provided in due course."

British Cycling joined the Tour of Britain in paying respects, saying:

"This evening we join the nation in mourning the loss of Her Majesty The Queen, at the age of 96.

"Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the RoyalFamily at this time."
