Hercules Site Services plant new trees at the Winthorpe Community Garden, Winthorpe Road, Newark, donated by Skanska

A community garden will be blooming with life for years to come after receiving a donation of 20 new fruit trees.

Hercules Site Services planted the new trees at the Winthorpe Community Garden, on Winthorpe Road, Newark, as part of its Boots 2 Roots initiative.

The scheme commits the firm to planting a new tree in the UK for every hire made on a project that Hercules is supporting.

The community garden provides relaxed space aimed at fostering social connections, and is used to help build skills, and improve mental well-being.

After planting the new trees — donated by Hercules’ client Skanska — it brings the total number of trees planted as part of the initiative to 41 so far.

Once fully grown, it is estimated that each tree will absorb approximately 25kg of CO2 per year.

Brusk Korkmaz, chief executive of Hercules Site Services, said: “We’re committed to being a company that cares for communities and the environment, so we’re pleased to play our part with this fantastic initiative.

“We hope the community enjoys the trees and the fruit they produce for years to come.”

Fozie Fazil, Social Value Manager at Skanska, said: “The Boots 2 Roots program is an incredible initiative that aligns perfectly with Skanska's values of creating a lasting, positive impact on both the environment and the local community.

“Planting trees not only enhances the green spaces around us but also fosters a sense of unity and pride among community members.

“The fresh produce and shade provided will make a tangible difference in the lives of local residents, while also giving them the opportunity to come together, learn new skills, and support each other.

“It's a wonderful example of how even small actions can lead to meaningful change”.
