Update: Gas leak at Newark industrial estate on Northern Road extended




A police cordon has been extended following an open air gas leak on an industrial estate.

The cordon has now been moved to the junctions of Northern Road where it meets Beacon Hill Road and Strawberry Hall Lane with the public advised to avoid the area.

Staff from businesses on the Newark Industrial Estate were evacuated shortly after 11:15am after they were alerted to the smell of gas.

Fire crews from Newark and Collingham Fire Stations arrived shortly after to cordon off the initial area and to help evacuate buildings.

Cadent Gas are at the scene and measuring gas levels and assessing whether it is safe to re-enter buildings.

Sharon Briggs from Motorfinity said: "When someone came in and mentioned the smell of gas we evacuated quickly.

"We then went to warn our neighbouring businesses and the emergency services arrived shortly after. It was a good quick reaction."

Other businesses affected by the gas leak are Cursor Controls Ltd, BluePrint Gaming and Mori Lee.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service advise that the public avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed.
