Further details about A46 crash revealed as all main routes through and around Newark affected
Further details have been released by Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service about the crash on A46 near Newark this morning.
Crews from Newark fire station were called to the scene of a road traffic collision at 9.04am on the A46 Newark relief road.
The incident involved two cars in the collision, with people becoming trapped inside the vehicles.
Firefighters were able to remove casualties from the wreckage using hydraulic cutting gear and assisted the East Midlands Ambulance Service with treatment.
Three casualties have been taken to hospital for treatment.
The A46 remains closed by Nottinghamshire Police following the incident as a crash investigation takes place.
A detour is in operation as the road closure continues to cause long delays and heavy traffic build up on all major routes through and around Newark.
People are urged to look for alternative routes as some commuters reported delays of up to an hour or more.
Affected roads include; A46 both ways from A617 (Cattlemarket Roundabout ) to A1 (Newark Showground / Air Museum Turn Off) as well as roads through Newark.
