Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service issue warning after cause of barn fire near Southwell revealed




The cause of a fire which destroyed two buildings has been revealed.

Yesterday evening (May 6), around 5pm Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service attended a blaze on Greaves Lane between Edingley and Ollerton Road, near Southwell.

Eight fire engines attended the scene at the height of the fire which saw two barns set alight.

Crews from Newark and Carlton remained on scene overnight to dampen down and monitor the area after the flames were extinguised shortly after 7.30pm.

This morning the fire service revealed the cause of the fire was a bonfire which had been left unattended and grew out of control.

Station Manager Simon Glew, said "Due to dry weather, please be aware that any outdoor fires you might have can get out of control very quickly.

"If you see a fire, call 999 immediately."
