Warm rooms to open at Bridge Community Centre, Newark providing food and heat for vulnerable people to help combat cost of living crisis
A community centre is set to open warm rooms to provide heat and food to the vulnerable over winter.
The warm rooms will be located at Bridge Community Centre off Lincoln Road in Newark.
They open from next Monday (October 24) and will be held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 4pm and Sunday from 2pm to 6pm. Any changes to the schedule around Christmas will be posted to the community centre Facebook page.
Organised by Ryan Bickerton at the Bridge Community Centre, he said: "We just can't stand the thought of people going hungry and cold. We have the space and felt it was very important that we provide for the community.
"We're looking at providing the service until it starts to warm up again, so probably until the spring around February or March time."
Visitors will be able to get a hot meal and a drink free of charge, although donations of money and food from the public are accepted.
Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, juice and biscuits will be available as well as hot meal options of soup, spaghetti, beans and toast or bread.
The community centre is also seeking volunteers to help run the warm rooms. Those interested in applying should contact Ryan Bickerton on 01636 703685
