New Welcome Break Newark A1 services in Fernwood officially opened by Mayor of Newark in special event featuring Red Bull Racing F1 car
The new Welcome Break services were officially declared open with a special event this weekend.
It has been a busy first week at the service station after it opened to the public for the first time on Wednesday morning (March 1).
A celebratory event was held on Saturday afternoon in which Mayor of Newark Laurence Goff unveiled a special plaque to mark the day.
Hundreds from the community turned out to experience the new services for themselves and Formula 1 fans were even able to admire a real Red Bull Racing F1 car up close.
The event also featured classic cars from the Capri Club, a DJ setting the atmosphere, free facepainting and a raffle with prizes including a Fortnum and Mason hamper, Merlin attractions annual pass and £100 Welcome Break voucher.
The new Welcome Break has brought some of the UK's best loved brands to the area with Starbucks and Burger King drive-thrus, a Pret a Manger and Greggs, as well as much needed fuel stops and electric charging points for cars and lorries.
Site manager at Welcome Break Newark, Rob Kelly, said: "We’ve had a fantastic week in Newark. The local community have welcomed us with open arms, and we’ve seen lots of them come down to enjoy the food and drink brands that we have on offer at Welcome Break.
"It has been great to see the same faces coming back multiple times since we’ve opened.
"The opening event has been a great success. It stayed dry and the people of Newark were out in force.
"We were thrilled to see them all enjoying the activities that we had put on to mark the official opening of the new site including a real Red Bull F1 car and a DJ who kept the party atmosphere going all afternoon.
"We hope that the site becomes a one-stop destination for the fuel and convenience needs of the local community and that the people of Newark continue to enjoy visiting and using our services.
"We would love to host more events in the future and will look to do so as relationships develop with other partners and residents."
