A1 Welcome Break services at Fernwood, Newark opening date and further details revealed

Further details have been released about the new Welcome Break services in Fernwood.

Representatives of Fernwood Parish Council recently met with Welcome Break to find out what progress had been made ahead of its official opening date.

It was confirmed by Welcome Break that the service station will open on March 1.

The services which began construction last summer on the Balderton roundabout, just off the A1, will bring big-names like Starbucks, Burger King, Pret a Manger and Greggs as well as a fuel stop for cars and lorries.

Welcome Break have said that their new A1 services has created 87 jobs.

Staff will be on site approximately 2 weeks before the official opening date to make sure that everything is ready inside the services.

The opening of the services on time is reliant on the completion of vital access roadworks which are said to be on schedule.

The access works are being undertaken following concerns from residents that the previous layout would have prevented cars from safely leaving the services and turning right.

Two-way traffic signals are in place on the B6326 between Balderton and the Fernwood roundabout during the installation of a right-turn lane.

Roadworks, as well as some minor clearance work on the verge opposite the site to remove small trees and regrowth, started before Christmas and are scheduled to end on February 26.
