Newark-woman to run London Marathon in support of Children with Cancer UK

A Newark-woman will be taking on the London Marathon is support of a children’s charity

Sophie Dallison only found out that she had received a marathon place in December, three months after most other entrees had received their.

The delay meant Sophie has been playing catch up and training hard to make sure she is ready to complete the 26.2mille challenge, despite confessing not to be a runner.

She will be raising money for Children with Cancer UK and set herself a target of raising £3,000 — anyone who wishes to support her can visit her GoFundMe page: https://gofund.me/f30e6bd9.

“No donation is too small,” she said.

“Together we can make a significant impact in the fight against childhood cancer.

“The work that Children with Cancer UK does is nothing short of incredible, and together, we can help make a real difference.”

Sophie moved to Newark a few years ago post COVID pandemic, with her husband who was born and bred in the area.

Always a fan of fast paced sports, long distance running always “felt like a chore” to her.

“I’m not a runner. In fact, I’ve always hated running,” she said

“It’s always felt like a chore. But this marathon is more than just a personal challenge — it’s an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and do something that truly matters.

“I’m running not for me, but for the brave children and their families who are facing battles they shouldn’t have to face.

“These children show incredible strength, and through this marathon, I want to show my support in the only way I know how: by raising money to fund critical research, provide care, and help find a cure.”
