An impression of life in Britain during the second world war, captured on archive film, can be seen at the Palace Theatre, Newark, on Wednesday, November 24.

Bygone Britain will be presented by film historian Rob Foxon, known for his Railways Remembered and aviation film shows.

A highlight of the show will be rare footage of Newark in 1942. Much of the film is centred on the cattle and poultry markets and the area between Castle Station and the castle. It also shows the retail market, town hall, and the malting.
