Wellowfest : Big names and local acts mix for village festival
More than 40 bands and singers will perform over three days at the annual Wellowfest music festival this weekend. They include headliners Hazel O’Connor, Toyah Willcox and The Blockheads.
It takes place at Chapel Farm, Wellow, from tomorrow (Friday) until Sunday.
The festival, launched in 2014, covers a wide range of genres, including pop, punk, country and 1980s classics.
The organisers said: “In its fourth year of running, Wellowfest maintains its roots as a family-friendly festival with a chilled out and relaxing vibe.
“Kick back and enjoy the best of the English countryside while listening to an eclectic mix of sounds.”
Opening the festival tomorrow night is 16-year-old Emma McGrath who writes hard-hitting acoustic music in a pop/rock style.
Following her on stage are the all-female rock band Sex P****d Dolls.
Also performing on Friday is British singer and actress Hazel O’Connor who enjoyed a string of hits in the 1980s with songs inclusing Eighth Day, D-Days, and Will You.
Completing the Friday line-up is Toyah Willcox, the 1980s punk star whose hits include Thunder In The Mountains and It’s A Mystery.
More than ten acts perform on the Wellowfest stage on Saturday.
They include Caunton’s Alex Bradford.
Other Nottinghamshire acts include indie rock act Vanity Box, rock and roll band Lois, indie rock and roll four-piece The Ladz From BKK, Warsop duo the Star Brothers, and Mansfield singer-guitarist Sam Jones.
Also on the bill are rock band Pretty Babs, solo artist Cecil, new wave outfit Black Thorn, and punk act The Novatones.
Headlining Saturday night are The Blockheads, whose hits include What A Waste, Reasons To Be Cheerful, Part Three, and Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick.
The final day of the festival has another packed line-up, including Southwell’s Brad Dear local blues and rock band Beggars Belief and Warsop’s folk-punk band Ferocious Dog.
The Sunday line-up also includes electro-dance act Apollo Junction, hard rock band Soldato, five-piece blues band Blind Fever, Lord Bishop Rocks, Fiddle Enigma, Meg Woolley and ten-piece The Activators.
