Six-year-old girl dies after being found unresponsive in Tuxford

A six-year-old girl died after she was found unresponsive in Tuxford.

Nottinghamshire Police and Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance's rapid response vehicle were called to Lincoln Road on Monday afternoon.

The girl was taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

A statement from Nottinghamshire Police said: "Police were called at 3.05pm to Lincoln Road, Tuxford, on Monday, February 19 where a six-year-old girl was found unresponsive.

"She was taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Mrs Elaine Atkin, vice-chairman of Tuxford Town Council, said: "People are very, very sad.

“It’s a real tragedy and upset quite a lot of people, especially as it is a well-known family in the town. They are getting a lot of support from their family and friends.

"It has affected people no end. Everybody is devastated, especially as Tuxford is a close-knit community."

The MP for Newark, Mr Robert Jenrick, tweeted: "Saddened to hear that a six-year-old girl was found dead in Tuxford. My thoughts (are) with her family."

A statement from Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance said: "The air ambulance’s rapid response vehicle was dispatched to a paediatric medical emergency in Tuxford at 2.55pm on Monday, February 19.

"Our crew of doctor and two paramedics assisted other emergency services on scene treating a female child. They returned to base at 4.40pm."
