Developer praised by Newark Town Council for “wanting to get on” with Yorke Drive estate regeneration after application lodged to alter planning conditions
An application to vary conditions to allow developers to ‘get on’ with part of the Yorke Drive regeneration has been welcomed by councillors.
Newark Town Council’s planning committee considered the application at a meeting on May 28.
The Lovell Partnership, which is to deliver the 207-house development with associated demolition, landscaping, car parking, pavilion, and sports pitches at Lincoln Road Playing Field, within the Yorke Drive redevelopment scheme, has applied to vary conditions attached to the planning permission granted in February this year.
Among the conditions it has sought to change, is one stating “No dwellings shall be constructed until an application for measures to prevent parking at junctions along the future bus route has been made”.
It is instead seeking to change the wording to “Plots 4-11, 26, 31-34, 146-146, 162-`67 shall not be occupied until an application for measures to prevent parking at junctions along the future bus route has been made.”
The application also seeks to change wording to allow the development to begin, but not be occupied, before an application for the diversion of the public rights of way has been submitted, and to allow the development to obstruct the public rights of way.
Planning documents stated: “The proposed minor revisions to the wording of each of these conditions will assist the delivery of the scheme.”
Nottinghamshire County Council highways objected to the change to the parking order, on the basis that due to the delay which can occur in securing traffic regulation orders there could be a period of time where it had been applied for, the plots occupied, and no order yet granted — meaning parking wasn’t prevented and could be “contrary to highway safety”.
Mathew Skinner supported the changes, and said: “It seems they want to get on with it.”
Lisa Geary added: “The neighbours support it, and the builders are being pragmatic and want to get on with it.”
No objection was lodged by the town council.
A decision will be made by Newark and Sherwood District Council at a later date.
