Fernwood-based radio DJ Ian McGregor to return to the airwaves on Radio Maritime’s breakfast show

A Newark DJ is to return to the airwaves with a prime time radio show.

Fernwood resident and former BBC presenter Ian McGregor is set to dust off his headphones and take over a popular breakfast show for two weeks.

Ian, who started his broadcast career with BBC Radio Kent in the nineties, will present the breakfast show on Maritime Radio in Greenwich while regular host and station boss Duncan Martin takes a break.

He has previously hosted seventies shows with the station.

The former Fernwood councillor, who also fronted the Radio Newark breakfast show during the Covid lockdown, said: “I love the immediacy of radio and it’s still a huge part of breakfast time as it delivers the vital ingredients such as local news, weather and traffic information that we all need as we prepare for work or the school run, but also great songs to get you singing along the way.

“I’m really looking forward to being back on the air.”

Maritime Radio programme director Duncan Martin added: “It’s good to have Ian back with us on Team Maritime. His seventies shows were always popular and I’m very pleased to have him anchoring the breakfast show during my summer break.”

Ian will be on the air for two weeks starting on Monday, June 2, at 7am.

His shows will include many of today’s hits — including his current favourite artists Benson Boone and Chappell Roan — with a few cheeky oldies thrown in.

Maritime Radio is available on TuneIn on smartspeakers, or online via maritimeradio.co.uk.
