Santander apply for new signage and interior refurbishment at Newark branch of bank
One of the last few remaining banks in a town is seeking to invest in new signage and an interior refurbishment.
Santander, at 44 Market Place, Newark, has submitted applications for new updated fascia and hanging signs featuring the bank’s updated text, and a full redecoration inside the premises.
Alongside Halifax, Lloyds, and HSBC, it is one of the few remaining banks in the town after the closure of TSB, NatWest, and Barclays’ Newark branches.
The bank wants to update its existing signs and window graphics, to the front and side of the grade II listed building, with non-illuminated replacements featuring Santander’s new text branding.
It has also sought permission to repaint the door and window frames, and clean and re-grout the exterior tiles “aimed at restoring the façade to a good condition”, according to planning documents.
Internally, the bank proposes to install new flooring, create a new customer self-service area, and fit new customer seating and privacy screens.
It would see the removal of two quiet rooms on the first floor, replaced with two ‘corporate space’ rooms.
The plans were considered by Newark Town Council at a planning meeting on May 28, where councillors raised no objections subject to approval from the conservation officer.
A decision will be made by Newark and Sherwood District Council at a later date.
