Teams from across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire wanted for charity event at Orston Shooting Ground in support of Cancer Research UK
A charity shooting event is being organised to take a shot at stopping cancer.
The event will take place at Orston Shooting Ground next Wednesday (June 11), with the aim of raising £8,000 to support Cancer Research UK.
It was jointly organised by Martin Copley and the cancer charity’s Newark branch chairman Roger Pykett, following the success of a previous charity event at the shooting ground.
For Roger it is a personal cause, after he lost his son Mark to cancer, and organised the event gave him a chance to combine his love of shooting with support for a cause he is passionate about.
“Cancer has touched the lives of so many people,” he said. “But you never know the reality of it until it affects you personally.
“Thankfully cancer research has moved on leaps and bounds, but there is still more work to be done.”
Teams of four can enter the competition for £800, which covers the cost of equipment and the clays which will be shot, with profits going towards Cancer Research UK.
Each team will shoot 500 clays — 125 per team member — with prizes awarded to the overall best team.
Teams are asked to meet at the shooting ground at 9.30am, ready for a 10.30am start. There will be a break for lunch at around 1pm, with an expected finish of 3.30pm after which awards will be handed out.
Currently 15 teams from across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire have signed up — with the hope of securing at least 20 teams to take part on the day.
The event is aimed at those with some level of shooting experience, such as farmers and landowners, who are familiar with handling a shotgun.
Lunch will be provided, and a raffle will also take place.
